Why Typos Matter: Embracing Imperfections in Digital Copy

Let’s be honest—typos happen to all of us. Whether it's a social media post or an email, even the most careful copywriters can make a slip. But are typos really such a big deal? In today’s fast-paced, AI-driven world, the pressure to deliver flawless, typo-free content has never been greater. But maybe we need to rethink this.

Recently, I misspelt a client’s name in a social post (cringe, right?). Thankfully, I managed to edit it quickly, but it got me thinking: Do we need to be perfect, or can we embrace a little imperfection? After all, fat fingers sometimes can’t keep up with a racing brain!

In an age where AI writing tools don’t make mistakes, should we, as humans, aim for the same perfection? Personally, I say no. While AI can churn out flawless content, there’s something reassuring about knowing a real person is behind the message. A typo here and there can remind us that we’re connecting with a human, not a bot.

That being said, we can’t completely ignore the power of good copy. A major typo—like my near-disaster with “Don’t kiss out!” instead of “Don’t miss out!”—can send the wrong message entirely. But the odd minor error? It can make your communication more relatable, more human.

For me, tools like Grammarly help keep my copy professional without stripping away my humanity. They catch the critical mistakes, but I’m not aiming for perfection—I’m aiming to connect. So, the next time you spot a small typo in an email, instead of getting "typo rage," appreciate the fact that a real person is on the other side.

Because, in the end, it’s not about perfection—it’s about making a genuine connection.
